The Cut
April 25, 2026 — Day 32
Grand Canyon RV Park, Cameron, AZ — Lone Rock Beach Campground, Glen Canyon Recreation Area, Big Water, UT
Moving Day. There isn’t much to see around Cameron, just what you read about yesterday. We managed to get about a million loads of laundry done, we had worried we’d need a second day just for that. (susan here: being the over achievers we are we got thru Mt. Washmore and Mt. Foldmore.)
Remember we mentioned the 600 volcanos?

So scenic…

We needed to find a place for lunch. This was pretty easy. There are dozens of road side stands that sell Navajo products, jewelry, blankets etc… Almost all of them had tall windblown signs proclaiming “Open” and “Stop in and say Hi” and almost all of them were closed, not open. If we knew one was open we might have stopped by to browse, but it is very difficult to get back into traffic, not that there was much, but we didn’t want to mess with it. So we found such a stand, without an Open sign and just pulled in. Here’s our lunch view.

Susan stepped out to take a better picture.

Back to driving.

Soon we approached a feature called “The Cut.”

It was steep. I think we were down to 31mph at one point.

Ahh, that’s why it is called the cut. Yowza.

We made it to Page, Arizona. This town was created in 1959 just to build the Glen Canyon Dam.

We gassed up just because the station was huge. The Walmart had about 20 campers in the parking lot. And Safeway had about a dozen, and one was ours. (susan here: it was RVs everywhere! We met a couple who were hanging out at Walmart and they called it “Camp Walmart”. Apparently it’s okay to stay there for a few days. Nobody bothers you. We had other plans though.)

This will be our home for the next 10 nights. We didn’t know that at the time. We just booked a few days and we kept bumping by a few days at a time.

Why so long? This is the Let ‘Er Rip Tour, after we left Phoenix our intentions were to “go where the wind blows us”. Of course we both look at maps, Susan had a giant loop going to all sorts of places, starting in Page. Then we realized that there was lots to see and do here. So why not ust stay in one place and soak in all that the area has to offer! It certainly helped that our site was awesome. This is the view from our windows.

Most campers park down below, but that’s crowded there and it felt like it had a party vibe. It was quiet up on the hill.

That’s the most campers we had all 10 days. Sometime we had a max of three maybe four.

Good night!
