Let 'Er Rip

Walking Backwards

May 9, 2026  — Day 46

Monument Valley KOA, Monument Valley UT

Susan woke up still feeling tired [cue ominous music] so we just hung out some. It seemed that the best way to see the Monument Valley sights was to get a Navajo tour and one geared towards photography. You need two tours actually, one for sunrise and one for sunset.

We watched a video from one of our favorite YouTube vloggers, Through My Lens, and he drove the scenic drive. They only allow a certain number of cars in at time. This means you could end up waiting a while just to get in. Given her fatigue, we decided to punt on a tour and let her rest some.

So Paul decided to fix things. The first was the broken heater vent in the bathroom.

Yes, that is a piece of broken wood used as a spacer above the furnace. Such quality! Paul promised to fix this better when we get home.

And it turns out the broken vent wasn’t broken, it just was never there. Paul swears there were two heater vents in the bathroom, he hates getting out of the shower when the bathroom is cold. (He’s since taken to just putting a space heater in the bathroom while showering!)

Presumably we caught up on blogs and Paul made a serious dent in the Playstation 5 game Talos 2 that’s he’s been enjoying.

A huge dustorm hit around dinner time, all of a sudden the RV was shaking and it was brown outside. This photo is early on in the storm, it got far darker.

This poor soul was caught out in it. He is walking backwards to keep the sand out of his eyes! We are still finding traces of that red dust inside the RV.
