Like Watching Paint Dry

November 14, 2023 – Day 47

We pulled out of Claytor Lake State Park, heading towards French Creek State Park in Elverson, PA. We’re both getting pretty tired of driving. It is like watching paint dry sometimes.

Notice what the truck is carrying? We’re so funny, right? To be fair, we both were surprised by this, thinking that paint would be transported in cans, but I guess it gets bulk transported also. Or maybe it is a liquid used to make paint? We don’t know but it did strike us as funny. Or, maybe we’re just punch drunk from thousands of miles of pavement. Every city has what every other city has. It becomes a blur. Bon Jovi is right. “It’s all the same. Only the names will change”

We shouldn’t complain. We’re not. We’re living the life of Riley. However, instead of 350-400 miles a day for a few days in a row we’re reconsidering the old “Two” rule that we first heard when we got our little travel trailer. No more than 200 miles, in by 2pm, stay for 2 days. We’re likely to try that next time we go out, but only if we don’t have a time deadline. And of course, our next two big trips have time deadlines, an eclipse and a wedding!

We’ll figure something out.

Paul is happy with the view, he grew up just east of here, outside Philadelphia, and things are starting to look “normal.”

Of course we stopped for gas, so why mention it? We’ve realized that we talked about the difficulty of finding gas stations that we can maneuver through. Pilot/Flying J often has “RV Fuel Lanes” and this is what they look like:

The wide angle lens does distort the view some, but notice how much space is there. You have gas and diesel on both side and plenty of room to get in and out. They usually have RV parking also, we’ve eaten many a lunch in places like this. (We really do miss our local lunch visits, that’s another reason to do the Two Rule.)

We pulled into French Creek State Park with about 30 minutes to go before sunset. We’re still going north and east, so we’re really pushing the sunsets earlier. We got unhooked, backed in and hunkered down for the night.

We had planned for Paul’s brother John to come visit us the next day, but we begged off as we were just tired from the travel.

Notice how we avoided Washington DC? That was a suggested alternate. DC traffic is a nightmare so that’s a big “Nope!”
