Just Chilling With the Deer

November 13, 2023 – Day 46

Frankly, we didn’t do much today, just hung out, played radio, Susan cooked up a storm so she wouldn’t have to cook later, and we were both getting tired of sandwiches for lunch.

Speaking of Lunch, one thing Paul likes to do is buy the weird drinks he finds. Today’s was Zia Ginger Ale.

The bottle promised “Red Chili and Lime,” and well, the lime was there but no red chili taste was found at all. This was almost certainly purchased out west.

Oh, we didn’t get a picture of it, but the oddest one was the Cucumber Soda. The four of us had some of it in Phoenix. It was, well, odd. Paul wasn’t sure if it was good or bad. Susan made that “I hate this” face

We spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get home. The plan was to go to French Creek State Park in PA, which wasn’t a bad drive and then make mad dash for home. Neither of us wanted any more to do with mad dashes. We spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find a Northeast campground that was open. Go figure, who camps in late fall? Apparently almost no one. Susan found two, both were about $100 a night (yikes!) and both were closer to French Creek than they were to home. We wanted the last leg to be a short day. Eventually Paul hit the jackpot! There was a state park just south of Albany, NY that was still open. And better yet, it was $28/night. We quickly booked it.

Now that plans were settled we decided to prep the coach for driving so we could get an early start the next day. Paul was quickly back inside. “I need to go to town, we’ve lost a cotter pin.” This pin is part of the mechanism that attaches the Jeep to the motorhome. He felt pretty bad about it. Whenever he hooked up or disconnected the Jeep he thought, “I should go buy some spare cotter pins.” And now ours was lost in the gravel. We both looked and didn’t find it.

He was about to head back into town and Susan realized that another big coach towing a Jeep had come in about an hour ago. She thought it was possible they might have a spare. Paul went over and asked. Yes, they had spares! No round trip into town that would have eaten 25 minutes each way. We were very thankful!
