Take Shelter in a Sturdy Building, Away From Windows

August 24, 2025 — Day 4 New York State Fair, Syracuse NY Nice click-bait title, huh? You’ll have to read until the end. But no worries, since we’re typing this obviously we’re ok. Well, as ok as we were before today! After last night’s late night concert plus some after concert decompressing we all slept in. That means we stumbled out of bed around 8 and moved slowly. Donna had a live calf birth to go see so she and Bill went off to the Cattle Barn. A bit later we headed to the fair. At the gate Paul channelled his inner Bill and told the gate attendants, “Old People”…

Paul Lies About his Age and Plays Ring Toss with a Robot

August 23, 2025 New York State Fair – Syracuse NY We got up early and headed to the fairgrounds around 8:45 AM. If you’re over 65 you get in for free. Paul isn’t quite there yet. He bought an “all days” pass but the website curiously claims, “one entrance” which seems to oddly imply that once you leave you can’t get back in. August 22, 2025 — Day 2 Cracker Barrel, East Greenbush NY — New York State Fair, Syracuse NY We started off with breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. Some of them are pretty good, some are pretty awful. The one in East Greenbush is on of the good ones. When we got back we found that we accidentally parked overnight in someone’s “reserved” spot. We hung out some, Paul tried to figure out the AGS (Automatic Generator Start) and then hit Target for some groceries we forgot. Yes, we take up 6 to 7 spaces. We passed under this cool section of overpasses. It must be new because we think we’d…

    Ahead of Schedule

August 21, 2025 — Day 1 Keene NH — East Greenbush NY So, we’re blogging again? We hated that we left you in a lurch, but it was needed. It was taking up a lot of time and we were having a lot of fun birding. (susan here: Which would be boring for you, dear readers… “We saw a checkered blue-billed teal-tufted diddly-squat!” Can you imagine post after post of that. We can’t either.) But we miss it and we think some of you enjoy it as too. (susan here: yes, we believe that’s true so don’t disabuse us of that notion.) This time, we’re going to try and blog…
